Dual role of tannic acid and pyrogallol incorporated in plaster of Paris: Morphology modification and release for antimicrobial properties

The design of bioactive plasters is major interest for the amelioration dental and bone cements. In this article, a one pot environmentally friendly strategy based on addition cheap polyphenol-tannic acid (TA) or main phenolic constituent TA, namely pyrogallol (PY)- able to interact with calcium sulfate proposed. Tannic not only modify morphology obtained plaster+TA/PY composites but part it released provides strong-up twenty fold- antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus. It shown that higher efficiency PY related greater release compared TA even if in solution lower than when reported basis molar concentration units.
